flyer → playlist

Upload a photo of a festival lineup flyer and get a Spotify playlist of the acts on it. The playlist leans toward each artist's lesser-known tracks instead of their biggest hits. I built it for EDM festivals, where part of the lineup is always new to me, but it works with any lineup. You don't need a Spotify account to use it: you get a public link to the finished playlist.

how it works

  1. Upload a flyer. Claude's vision model reads the lineup, groups it by day, and guesses each act's genre.
  2. Pick the days and sounds you care about. Only those acts get looked up.
  3. Check the list. Every name is matched on Spotify, and you can fix misreads, drop acts, or add ones it missed.
  4. Choose the mix (more deep cuts or more hits, and tracks per artist) and generate the playlist.

a few decisions

  • Privacy first. Location and other metadata are stripped from every photo, and the photo is thrown away once it's been read. The step that reads the flyer never sees any Spotify account details.
  • Built around Spotify's limits. Spotify caps how many artists the app can look up each day, and one huge poster could use up a whole day's lookups. So every lookup is saved, and since festival lineups share a lot of names, repeat artists cost nothing. That's also why you pick days and genres first. Playlists are created on my own Spotify account, so visitors never have to sign in.
  • A bad read shows up as a bad read. If the photo is shaky or isn't a lineup, you can retake it or type artists in, instead of getting a wrong list.

The app's review screen for an EDC lineup flyer. A thumbnail of the flyer sits next to the heading 'Does this match your flyer?' and a count of 243 artists. Below it, a warning reads 'This flyer was hard to read, so some names may be missing entirely. Compare against your flyer and add anyone we skipped.' Then comes a search box and the start of the Friday list of artists, each with its genre and a button to remove it.
